Writing Center

The Writing Center provides opportunities for UMD’s diverse undergraduate student body to improve their writing, research, and critical thinking skills in preparation for successful academic, professional, and civic lives.

In a supportive atmosphere, trained consultants from a variety of backgrounds and majors assist writers in-person and online throughout the writing process. The Writing Center also facilitates collaborations and workshops. We are committed to sponsoring research on writing center theory and practice.

Make an Appointment

The Writing Center works with UMD undergraduate students only. In addition to consultations at our Tawes and McKeldin locations, we offer live online tutoring, live online walk-in appointments, and 24-hour feedback. UMD graduate students seeking writing help should contact the Graduate School Writing Center

Once registered, if you have trouble finding a suitable time in our schedule, click on the clock icon next to each day of the week to sign up for the waiting list. You'll receive notice when an appointment opens.
