Why did you decide to become an English major?
I decided to be an English major because I enjoy writing, reading and learning about how literature has been influenced by culture and the ways that factors such as gender and history play a role.
What clubs, campus groups, internships, outside of class projects have you been involved with?
I have interned in DC in DC Public Schools’ Urban Education Leader Internship Program and The Family Online Safety Institute. I was a communications intern at Arts on the Block, but I work there now part-time as a Communications Assistant and led one of their charitable giving campaigns on Giving Tuesday. I got involved because of my interest in nonprofits and arts education.
What is something you read during class that impacted your worldview?
Jamaica Kincaid’s A Small Place made me think about how a different perspective can help bring out nuances and aspects of history and tradition that make a difference on how a narrative is depicted.
What skills (professional, creative or other) do you think you’ve gotten from the major?
Being an English major has given me critical thinking, editing, interpersonal communication and professional writing skills which I use in my work and understanding the world around me.
What is your dream job or career?
My dream job or career would be to work in communications full-time.
What are you passionate about (or even curious about)?
I am passionate about nonprofits and making an impact on my community through creativity.
