Professor Stanley Plumly's collection of poems Old Heart (2007) has won the Los Angeles Times Book Award for Poetry.

This is one of the major poetry awards of the year.  Details and the full list of winners can be found on the Times's web site: http://www.latimes.com/extras/bookprizes/.

One of Old Heart's many enthusiastic reviewers said that Professor Plumly's lines, so often focused on the embodied world, "light up again and again in pure radiance."  The joy in this poetry is usually hard-won, but perhaps we can all feel a little of it as we watch Professor Plumly "turn the air . . . crystalline" around him.

Congratulations to Professor Plumly!
