In May of this year, Liam Thomas Daley helped to co-organize a series of online readings of Renaissance history plays for Brave Spirits Theatre Company, directing one of the plays and providing the dramaturgy for two more.

The series of eight plays, which depicts events in medieval English history from the reign of King John to the reign of King Henry VII (1119 - 1499) took place between May 11 and June 2, 2020. Liam provided the dramaturgy for Shakespeare’s co-authored play King Edward the Third, and the anonymous The Famous Victories of King Henry the Fifth, as well as directing the first play in the series, George Peele’s The Troublesome Reign of King John – a play closely tied to Shakespeare’s King John. This latter production starred UMD’s Melanie Rio (PhD Candidate, English) in the role of Constance.

Originally planned to be staged at Brave Spirits’ theater in Alexandria, VA, the series was instead moved online due to the quarantine and broadcast live. Recordings of these broadcasts, as well as Liam’s dramaturgical introductions to the three plays mentioned above, can befound at the Brave Spirits websit, as can more information about this reading series.
