Clare Parsons
Clare Parsons, Ph.D. is a lecturer of ENGL394 (Business Writing) in the Professional Writing Program.
During the last two years, she has been working on the concept of gamification and its utility in the pedagogy of blended and asynchronous skills-based classes. Her ENGL394 Blended class version emphasizes peer challenges and audience-based problem-solving.
Last summer, she authored a fully online course where the crafting of rhetorical strategies and audience analyses followed many of the principles of “modding.”
Her original doctorate in Comparative Literature (Harvard, 1996) involved the historical and aesthetic impact of the flaneur figure (an urban stroller). More recently she has tried to connect principles of embodied cognition to learning in virtual worlds. She is open to any and all collaborations that apply the cognitive sciences to practical uses in professional and personal communications.
