Digital Storytelling and Poetics Minor
As a Digital Storytelling and Poetics minor, you’ll learn to bridge creativity and imagination with language and design tools like AI and code to create and interpret compelling content in digital settings.
With a solid foundation in both analyzing and making digital media, you’ll be equipped to succeed in careers in gaming, software, web, content creation, and entertainment development and design.
Examples of the styles of digital narratives and new media you’ll be working with include:
- Popular media such as Black Mirror, Ex Machina, and Mr. Robot
- Indie game developers such as Zoë Quinn, Nathalie Lawhead, Robert Yang, and EnbyKaiju
- Instagram poets such as Rupi Kaur, Amanda Lovelace, Fariha Róisín, and Nayyirah Waheed
- Multimedia literary experiments by artists such as Shelly Jackson, Dennis Cooper, Teju Cole, Jennifer Egan, and Xu Bing
During your coursework, you'll also develop a digital portfolio of critical and creative work as a means to showcase your career-facing knowledge and skills.
Requirements
A total of 15 credits from a select list of courses, as well as submission of an electronic writing portfolio, are required.
The 15 credit hours are as follows:
- ENGL 295: Introduction to Digital Storytelling and Poetics
- 12 credits (4 courses) from the following courses, including at least one course from the Critical Analysis and Theory list, at least one course from the Craft and Creative Process list, and at least one course at the 400-level.
