Nicolette Polek (MFA '19) Wins 2019 Rona Jaffe Award

Nicolette Polek, who graduated from the MFA Program in May, has won a 2019 Rona Jaffe Award in fiction. This prestigous award is given annually to six women writers who are are in the early stages of their careers.

Alumni Profile: Danielle Gillis

Danielle Gillis graduated from the University of Maryland with her Bachelor’s degree in both English and Journalism and a minor in Black Women’s Studies. She currently works as an associate producer for WJZ-TV, the local CBS news station in Baltimore.

Carnegie Medal Goes to Elizabeth Acevedo, First Writer of Color in Medal's History

Elizabeth Acevedo's novel, The Poet X, has won the Carnegie Medal. Acevedo is the first writer of color to recieve the award in the Medal's history. She earned her MFA in Poetry at the University of Maryland in 2016.
