Writing Center Administrators and Tutors Present Research

On April 4-5, 2014, Writing Center administrators and tutors presented at the Mid-Atlantic Writing Centers Association conference at Salisbury University.

Their presentations included “’Say It the Way You Say It To Yo Momma’: Using Writing Centers to Change How Academia Marginalizes ‘Non-Standard’ English Dialects” by Douglas Kern, Brittany Boyd, and Shirelle Ellis; “Creating Effective Tutoring Sessions with ESL Students: A Guide to Grammatical and Structural Differences in Foreign Languages” by Nabila Hijazi and Jillian DiNardo; “Creating a Writing Center Code of Professionalism” by Leigh Ryan and Tom Earles; and “Extending the Mission of the Writing Center” by Kevin Rudd, Stephen Grapes, Sabrina Asad, and Karina Shedrofsky.

This year 11 undergraduates were selected to present their research in a poster session at the Conference on College Composition and Communication in Indianapolis, IN. Writing Center tutor Lena Stypeck presented on “Expanding our Own Thinking Using Mneumonics in Tutoring Sessions.”
