Vin Carretta presented at the Massachusetts Historical Society in Boston on November 2, 2011. He spoke about his new book, Phillis Wheatley: Biography of a Genius in Bondage, which the MHS described as “the first full-length biography of a figure whose origins and later life have remained shadowy despite her iconic status.” Vin treats Wheatley’s biography and reception, as well as her complex celebrity, with expert nuance, and the book has been met by critical acclaim. Phillis Wheatley was one of six books reviewed and recommended for the February issue of Essence magazine for Black History Month. Congratulations to Vin on both talk and book!
