Stanley Plumly to Visit Washington County Museum of Fine Arts

The museum will be the site of a poetry reading by Stanley Plumly, Poet Laureate of Maryland.

Held Friday, May 17, 2013 at 7:30 p.m., the program is sponsored in part by HBP, Inc., Hagerstown, Maryland. Free and open to the public, a reception will be held following the event. A native of Barnesville, Ohio, Plumly received his B.A. from Wilmington College (Ohio) and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Ohio University. His work has been recognized through eight Pushcart Prizes, a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship, the Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Paterson Poetry Prize. A Maryland Distinguished University Professor since 1998, Dr. Plumly founded the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing at the University of Maryland, College Park. He has been called the most English of American poets for his Keatsian eye to nature and his quiet poems are unmistakable.
