Sept. 10: Anthony Grafton speaks at the Center for Historical Studies

August 29, 2012 English | Center for Literary and Comparative Studies

Grafton will discuss "Arnaldo Momigliano and the Tradition of Ecclesiastical History."

Professor Stefano Villani, History, will serve as commentator. Professor Grafton is the author of several influential works of intellectual history, the history of the book, and Modern European history.

Professor Grafton's colloquium will serve as a particularly apt transition from last year's theme ("Crisis and the Historical Narrative") to the theme has chosen to explore in the 2012-13 academic year, which is "Constructing Historical Knowledge: Historians Confront Categories of Discourse."

Visit the Center's website, http://www.history.umd.edu/HistoryCenter/, for a detailed description of their theme for the year or for a copy of Professor Grafton's paper.
