Save the Paper Shell Review!

April 25, 2012 English

The English department student-run literary magazine Paper Shell Review has been denied funding due to the 31 percent budget cut in the Student Government Association Finance Committee.

Sohayl Vafai, founder of the magazine and Jamie Lee, junior journalism major, are now appealing the committee’s decision and collecting petition signatures to save the journal. As of yesterday afternoon, they received more than 250 signatures. The SGA legislature will make a decision at its meeting this evening.

Paper Shell Review receives hundreds of submissions from universities around the world, including Princeton, Georgetown, the University of Exeter, the University of London and McGill University. It also grabbed the attention of Pulitzer Prize-winning literary journalist Michael Dirda, who wrote the introduction to last year’s issue.
