Patricia Roberts-Miller, author of First Year Book, to visit UMD

Over two days, Roberts-Miller will partake in three events.

On Thursday, November 7 and Friday, November 8, Patricia Roberts-Miller will visit UMD's campus to partake in various discussions regarding her book Demagoguery and Democracy. Demagoguery and Democracy is this year's First Year Book.

November 7

A Conversation with the Academic Writing Program
This conversation with Dr. Patricia Roberts-Miller will focus on English 101's role in civil discourse and how our students and teachers are responding to this text. This event will take place in Tawes Hall, room 2115. It will begin at 11:00 am and end at 12:00 pm. No RSVP is required.

Us vs. Them: A Discussion with Patricia Roberts-Miller about demagoguery and how it influences our everyday lives and perceptions
Featuring UMD faculty members Janelle Wong and Kevin Klose. This event will take place in the Stamp Student Union Colony Ballroom starting at 4:00 pm.

Dialogues on Deliberation
Join Dr. Roberts-Miller to reflect on how our daily communication habits and social practices contribute to or challenge a culture of demagoguery, and brainstorm strategies for promoting healthier deliberation practices. This event will take place in the Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center, room 1202 from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm. Please RSVP at http://ter.ps/PDI.
