New Director Named for Comparative Literature

July 13, 2010 English

With great pleasure we announce that Professor Zita Nunes will be taking over as Director of Comparative Literature on July 1, 2008.

Professor Nunes has been an active leader in CMLT and in other programs.  This year she coordinated the African-American/African Diaspora Group, chaired its search committee, and is organizing a conference on May 1-3 on "Digital Humanities and African American/African Diaspora Studies."  We are most fortunate that Professor Nunes will be giving her considerable energy, organizational skills, and creative imagination to the Comparative Literature Program.

This change in leadership also offers a good opportunity to express thanks to Professor Orrin Wang for his superb leadership of CMLT.  Professor Wang was extensively involved in developing the proposal that brought CMLT to English, he has managed the program's transition to its new home, and he has also created the outstanding "Comparative Crossings" speaker series that has helped to forge a presence and an identity for CMLT.  Professor Wang now takes a well-deserved break and will be working on his own research with a GRB next year.
