Matthew Kirschenbaum has contributed a commissioned essay entitled "An Executable Past: The Case for a National Software Registry" to a Library of Congress report on the preservation of software for cultural heritage.

To date, this fall he has also presented work in progress on his literary history of word processing at the CUNY Graduate Center and Harvard University, and appeared on a panel at the New Museum in New York City.‬‬‬
