Maryland Summer Scholars Program

The Maryland Summer Scholars Program (MSS) is a competitive research awardthat provides an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students to
spend the summer working closely with faculty mentors on ambitious research or artistic projects.

Maryland Summer Scholars research may take place anywhere in the US or abroad as required by the nature of the project.  For the Summer of 2011, the program will provide awards of $3,000 to approximately 30 outstanding students.

You are eligible to apply if you will have earned 60 or more credits by the end of Spring 2011, if you have a GPA of at least 3.4, and if you will be enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park, in Fall 2011. All academic majors are eligible. The deadline to apply for Summer 2011 awards will be Monday, February 14, 2011.

The Maryland Center for Undergraduate Research will hold information sessions about the 2011 MSS program – please RSVP to ugresearch@umd.edu for the session you plan to attend, as space is limited (if you are interested but cannot attend reply to the same address to be notified about additional sessions). Please note: the last two sessions will be held at 2403 Marie Mount Hall – all others will be in 2100D McKeldin Library.

Thursday, December 16 at 1 pm – 2403 Marie Mount Hall

Students who carry out Maryland Summer Scholars projects gain a competitive edge when applying for graduate study, fellowships, employment and other competitive opportunities. Many Summer Scholars turn their research into an independent study or honors thesis during their senior year.

Detailed instructions on completing applications for the MSS program will be posted on the MCUR website on Monday, December 13, 2010. The deadline to apply for Summer 2011 awards will be Monday, February 14, 2011.
