Jenny Wang Named 2012 University Medalist

May 15, 2012 English

The University of Maryland has announced Jenny Wang will be awarded the 2012 University Medal at the spring commencement ceremony on May 20, 2012.

The medal, awarded each year at May commencement, honors the graduating senior who best exemplifies academic distinction, outstanding character and extracurricular contributions to the university or public communities.

Ms. Wang completed two degrees in physiology and neurobiology and in English language and literature as well as a Creative Writing Minor.   An Honors College student, Wang is also a Banneker-Key Scholar.  She graduates Summa Cum Laude.

With this award, she is noted for her extraordinary accomplishments in all aspects of her undergraduate experience at Maryland, including academics, leadership and civic engagement.

In an interview appearing on the University’s home page, Wang notes that “she enjoyed the intimacy of the upper-level English classes and the nonscientific discussions. It provided balance. If she got tired of microbes, she'd work on a short story assignment.”  To read the interview in its entirety, please see the University Commencement page.
