Go Black, White, Red, Gold, and Green?

August 21, 2013 English

At a school that proudly displays black, white, red, and gold, the University is known for another color—green.

Each participating office has a GO Rep that devotes roughly four hours a month to the Green Office Program in his or her office. In the English department’s main office, Isabella Moulton leads the efforts. In the Professional Writing Program, duties are carried out by Grace Crussiah, and in the Writing Center, Louise Clement. The three GO Reps had a busy summer. In June, they attended training and in July, a staff retreat. A pre-audit was performed and a Rep from the Green Office Program visited and gave a presentation.

The Green Office Program helps faculty, staff, and students advocate and utilize the best environmental practices possible in their individual offices.  The Program also supports offices that work towards reducing their environmental footprint. After pledging to work towards sustainability, the office is "greened," based on a checklist from the Program. After completing 75 percent of the checklist, the office acquires Bronze level certification and has opportunities to advance and become Silver or Gold level certified.

Once certified, the office receives an award to proudly display, as well as a digital logo to place on its website. The office also receives support from the Program and recognition on the University’s sustainability website. Track the English Department’s progress here.

The GO participation pledge for the English department's main office will be posted in Tawes 2117 for faculty and staff to sign and pledge to help make the University a national model of a green campus. Isabella will also post the list of 30 items to be achieved in order to recieve Bronze level certification.
