Four MFAs Nominated for AWP Intro Journals Project

November 22, 2010 English

Djordjevic, Ellis, Kleinman, and Leverone are nominated for a major creative award.

The Association of Writers and Writing Programs is an organization committed to “develop[ing] a literature as diverse as [our] continent’s peoples,” says their website. So, it is a particularly exciting honor for our M.F.A. Program in Creative Writing to announce four nominees for the 2010-2011 AWP Intro Journals Project.  This is a literary competition for the discovery and publication of new work by students currently enrolled in creative writing programs around the country.  The nominations for the award speak to a growing, and increasingly diverse and dynamic writerly presence.

The nominees in poetry are Ena Djordjevic for “Srebrenica,” Steven Kleinman for “Conifer,” and Julia Leverone for “The Orchard.”  And our nominee in fiction is Joshua Ellis for “Girl On My Shoulder.”

Congratulations to our four nominees, and good luck in the upcoming national competition. Winners will be notified in late spring 2011 and will receive publication in a participating literary journal and a $100 cash honorarium. Great work!
