Department Recognized in 2013 U.S. News & World Report Graduate Program Rankings

The Department of English at the University of Maryland has been recognized as a leader in graduate studies in two areas of specialization.

US News and World Reports recently ranked UMD in the top 10 nationally in both American Literature before 1865 and African American Literature

These results are based on peer assessment surveys sent to more than 150 graduate English departments and reflect the department's national reputation in these fields.
