April 13, 2017 English | Center for Literary and Comparative Studies

Barry Pearson compiled the 27th title from Smithsonian Folkways called Classic Piedmont Blues, offering an illuminating overview of the Piedmont style.

The album featurs influential artists such as John Jackson, Cephas & Wiggins, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Doc Watson, and many others. A 40-page booklet accompanies the album, complete with track notes and a brief history of the style that fostered a cross-polination between traditions.

In addition to his extensive work on Classic Piedmont Blues, Pearson previously produced three other titles in Smithsonian Folkway's "Classic Series": Classic African American Songsters, Classic Harmonica Blues, and Classic American Ballads. Read more about the album project here
