Xiaofang Huang
After receiving a B.A. and an M.A. in English from Sun Yat-Sen University, in 2006 and 2008 respectively, Xiaofang Huang went to the Catholic University of America, where she earned a Ph.D. in 2017. Her dissertation was titled “The Self and the Family: A Comparative Study of the Works of the American South and China in the Early Twentieth Century.” In addition to having delivered lectures on “Strategies for Coaching Writing” and “Steps Towards a Successful Dissertation” for ASDAN (an education charity), she has delivered talks on “Yoknapatawpha County and Beyond: An Exploration of William Faulkner’s Novels” and “Understanding Individualism: Studying American Literature from Chinese Perspectives” at Hainan University. Painting has become one of Xiaofang’s hobbies, and recently she has taken up watercolor. Speaking of her avocation, Xiaofang remarked, “I really enjoy the fluidity and spontaneity that watercolor brings to the paintings, and I find it especially effective in capturing life. Right now (when I can find time), I'm working on watercolor portraits.”
