Nic Subtirelu
I joined the Professional Writing Program at the University of Maryland in 2025. I am a writing teacher and multidisciplinary scholar. I have taught numerous courses in college composition, English as a second language, linguistics, and research methods at Montgomery College, Georgetown University, Georgia State University, and Ball State University. My scholarship is focused on social theory and critical pedagogy. I have published research on ideologies (or discourses) of language, race, gender, and nation. I have a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Georgia State University, an MA in Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) from Ball State University, and a BA in English and German from Bowling Green State University.
