Melvette Melvin Davis earned a doctorate in English from the Pennsylvania State University. She enjoys creating relevant, engaging content for instructors and students, and her background in language and literacy education and culturally responsive pedagogy informs her teaching, research, and collaboration. 

She has assisted with multiple curricular projects in the Academic Writing Program (AWP), including revision of the English 101 course text and annotated syllabus, development of materials for teaching English 101 online, and creation of resources to support student-centered assessment practices. 

Dr. Davis has received recognition for her leadership in the AWP, and she was the recipient of the 2022 Writing Programs Award for Social Justice and Antiracist Teaching and Tutoring and the English department's 2022 Professional Track Faculty Teaching Excellence Award. Students describe her pedagogy as "caring," "relatable," "engaging," and "inclusive." 

Her Grace over Grades: Reflections on Unapologetically Ungrading blog series recounts her experiences with ungrading in the ENGL 101 classroom, and her article "Daughters Making Sense of African American Literature in Out-of-School Zones” is featured in The Best of the Independent Rhetoric & Composition Journals (2012).

In addition to teaching, Dr. Davis is also an academic advisor in the English Undergraduate Studies Office.
