Writing For Change, a partnership between Northwestern High School and the University of College Park, Maryland, has launched its latest project "The Path to Freedom (Is Power)." The Writing for Change program emphasizes collaborative mentorship and the development of visual and performance pieces about pressing social issues. The Writing for Change website hosts content from the program from 2017-2021. Last year's project, "Pandemic Perspectives" is also available on the site's archive.

This year's theme "Freedom and Power" features projects in a variety of genres focusing on questions of who has freedom and social power, who doesn't, and the barriers to achieving freedom and equal rights in a country that prides itself on being the Land of the Free.

"I, my UTA, Mary Murdock, and our partner teachers at Northwestern, Ibraheem Ahmad and Carly Finkelstein (an English department alum, Class of '06) are especially appreciative of the dedication shown by the high school and college participants," says Writing for Change director Justin Lohr. "They remained deeply committed to the project despite the pandemic and challenges of remote learning.  Their passion and engagement throughout the process were truly remarkable and are fully reflected in the final projects."
